Interview with Kiana Tom
The Star of ESPN's Kiana's Flex Appeal
Fit and Pretty Example of Success!

UPS AND DOWNS OF SUCCESS

Who have you met that you wouldn't have if you weren't a very successful tv host?

Everyone famous I have ever met is somehow connected with my being on TV: Jean Claude Van Damme, co-starred in his movie with him, Universal Soldier: THe Return/Columbia Tristar. While attending the NFL Hall of Fame Awards, I was invited to Howie Longs' private bash at the country club, I met him, all the NFL greats, Marcus Allen, other famous people: Magic Johnson, the Dodgers; I get great seats behind home plate near the dugout-mycousin is their photographer, NY Mets, Lakers, Boyz to Men( i interviewed them when I was a host at the Superbowl '96), Arnold Shwarzneger, DRew Carry (I was guest star on his show), Jay Leno, Craig Kilborne (I was a guest twice on his talk show, the Late Late show with Craig Kilborne) many singers, athletes, anchors, etc. too many to mention.

On the sad side, what kind of general precautions do you take to protect you from various stalkers with bad intentions? I have heard that at various times, the FBI has gotten involved with various unsavory characters that have bad intentions. I'm sure that you keep a bodyguard with you 24/7. Has it deterred most of the unwanted contact?

I am overly cautious about everything, for a good reason. You can't be too safe. It is difficult, for ex., because you can't live normal and have acquaintances over to your house, for fear they might tell someone where you live. Only family and good friends come over. Guard gates, guard dogs, infrared security systems, etc. I check into hotels under an alias, last month I was Pocahantus. I travel with a big bodyguard on trips. Being prepared and safe allows me the freedom to relax and be myself.

MEDIA

Which article and/or tv appearances, since you've been on numerous muscle and fitness magazines and was featured on Entertainment Tonight and EXTRA, do you think captured what you really want to communicate?

Entertainment Tonight always does a fantastic job capturing the real Kiana and my goals. They edit the best of the best footage and make an interesting, entertaining story.

Which magazine (besides this one - hehe) do you feel profiled you the most accurately?

Besides your magazine (and the Q&A you provided are wonderful!) Muscular Development did a 12 page spread on me including the cover, which was very detailed and well done. They sold out of the issue, I wish I had a copy or two. I enjoyed the interview and cover/photo layout for YOLK Magazine. It was alot of fun!

Which tv show do you feel profiled you the most accurately?

Entertainment Tonight, they have covered me and my show numerous times, I really like working with them.

  • TIPS FOR OUR VIEWERS

What is your "fitness tip" for people who want to survive the month of December where everybody is eating all the time?

With all the tempting yummy foods, take a bite of the ones you like-don't put the whole thing into your mouth. A taste will do. If you can't take one bite without eating the whole thing, pick the "one" you really want and have a few of those and then STOP. Also, stay away from egg nog unless it's sugar/fat free. Try and eat a healthy high protein meal prior to going to the cocktail parties, you'll snack less and be full already. Women: be vain-alot of the foods are messy and will mess up your lipstick and get your hands all sticky.

What exercise(s) do you recommend for people to enhance intimacy with their partner?

All types. Working out with your partner is sexy-getting all sweaty and watching them pump their muscles. Being physical with your partner in boxing, jogging, tennis, etc. is exhilarating. BE playful, be a kid, be strong-it's sexy and empowering. Personally, it is a turn out to watch my guy lift heavy weights, breathing heavy and sweating. When you lift weights, your muscles get pumped, harder and bigger. It's the best when they don't know you're watching! Whew!
